2D Course—Against All Odds—Illustrated Book About Hardship

For this 2D course, our last assignment was to write and illustrate a book about hardship that either I experienced, someone I know experienced, or a hardship that interests me. I chose Syrian Refugees because I was reading in the news about the war in Syria and how it displaced so many people. I was drawn to how some families were able to make it to the states and start their lives completely over. I thought how resilient these families were. I drew the illustration with pencil, then a fine Sharpie marker, then painted with a water color palette of 28 colors. Some of my images here show my progress with illustrating the pages. I visualized in my mind illustrations I wanted for each page which you can see in my Storyboard in my Process Journal in my blog. For some of the images I was able to find photographs online that fit what I wanted to portray. A lot of my images I drew from my head, like the food, eating and sleeping together, and the soldier at the door. But 9 of the images I relied on a light table to transfer parts of photos in arrangements that I liked, like the children in school and children playing soccer. I credited the sources in the back of the book from where I was able to find photos. Some photos I only used parts of and mixed and matched elements, as in the cover design. After doing some research online about different Syrian families, I wrote the story myself.

Elementary Art Ed Course—Demo Videos

In this Elementary Art Education course we were assigned video lessons to work with a variety of media, one being in digital media format. Each had to be under 8 minutes long, where one had to have the viewer pause the video and come back after they had worked on a particular piece.
