Symbolic Self Portrait--"Enlightenment"

This is my Symbolic Self Portrait assignment in 2D AVT 667 studio class. Our professor, Mary Del Popolo, instructed our class to sketch four thumbnails for our ideas. I chose a thumbnail idea and created a final chalk pastel drawing that is 19" x 25" on colored ivory Strathmore paper. My soft pastels are "Artist Loft" brand from Michael's, a set of 48. The objects are symbolic of me. The Buddha statue is not me. It represents the contentment I have with life right now. I buy clothing and jewelry at Unique thrift store, which the Buddha statue is wearing. I am Nutritarian and eat mostly fruits, vegetables, beans, nuts and seeds, and limit processed foods. My Unique reusable shopping bag in the upper right corner is there because I care about the environment and buy recycled clothes. At this point in my life I feel I have reached "Enightenment". It is the Buddhist philosophy that you feel you don not need to be reincarnated from this life into another because you are suffering in this one. It means you are happy in the here and now. I am not Buddhist. I am Episcopalian. We can all learn and share with other religions in the world.

Above are my four thumbnail sketches.

Below is my work in progress in my work space.
